Tea family

Often gentle, with a delicate aroma.

A pairing to try: Pear · white peach

What it is

White tea is made by withering and drying buds and leaves, with some natural oxidation. Silver Needle and White Peony are familiar examples.

Names to look for

Silver Needle emphasizes buds; White Peony includes leaves. Neither name alone tells you how your finished fruit drink will taste.

A fruit pairing to explore

Try a small amount of pear or white peach with your brewed tea. Keep a plain sample beside it, and add fruit gradually until you find the balance you enjoy.

For your next glass

A pale cup is not a useful caffeine measurement. Follow the product’s information and brewing directions; do not assume white tea is caffeine-free.

Pairing suggestions are editorial ideas, not the results of a comparative tasting. Use the brewing directions for your particular tea.
