From floral to deeper, roasted styles.
A pairing to try: Peach · pineapple
What it is
Oolong is partially oxidized. Lighter styles can be floral; darker styles can bring deeper flavors. Oxidation and roasting are different processing choices.
Names to look for
Tieguanyin and Wuyi oolongs are useful names to investigate. Ask about the particular tea’s roast and style instead of assuming all oolong tastes alike.
A fruit pairing to explore
Make two small glasses with peach and different oolongs. Keep the peach amount the same. Does one tea disappear behind the fruit, while the other stays distinct?
For your next glass
Taste the brewed tea before mixing. Choose your fruit amount around that particular cup, rather than around the word “oolong” on the package.
Pairing suggestions are editorial ideas, not the results of a comparative tasting. Use the brewing directions for your particular tea.
